18AR-2 PAIR OF EXHIBITION QUALITY TGT/DUELERSSuperb exhibition quality pair of French dueling/target pistols in original case circa about 1850-60s. The pair show fine and ornate gold leaf and border inlays on the lock, hammers, barrels, and mounts. Thebackgrounds between gold are engraved and etched. The barrels are blued and the lock and mounts are case hardened and French gray satin finished. The stocks are finely arabesque pattern carved in ebony. Thecondition of the pair are fine to excellent. They measure 16 ½” overall with 10” barrels and .45 caliber rifled. Shows no evidence of firing or use. The pair are contained within the bottom half of their original Frenchstyle fitted case with mold, mallet, rods and covered compartments. The interior material is faded but near fine condition. The mold is unused and correct size. It is our opinion this pair lifted out of a larger outer casethat was either damaged or lost and may have contained additional shooting accessories. A superbly decorated pair that may be signed inside locks or under the barrels however we did not risk disassembly.
