18BP-1 PENN. RIFLE WORKS PLAINS RIFLEPennsylvania Rifle Works full stock percussion Plains rifle, approximately .40 caliber. The rifle is in good overall condition with a 34” heavy octagon barrel. The barrel has taken on a brown patina with a silver blade front sight and light to moderate surface erosion. The side plate and hammer have light engraving and some pin prick pitting. The side plate is marked, “PENNSYLVANIA GUN WORKS”. The full-lengthwood stock is in good condition with a brass cap at the muzzle, brass trigger guard, elaborate patch box and crescent butt plate. In addition to beautiful fiddle back figure, the stock has significant silverornamentation with six silver inlays along the barrel channel, a silver heart behind the tang and a silver escutcheon plate on the cheek piece where someone has hand engraved an American eagle with shield.
