Colt Single Action Army Revolver in .44-40 caliber with a 7 ½” barrel, patina finish and original 1 piece ivory grips, S/N 65540. Factory letter states .44-40, blue and stocks not listed. Shipped March 15, 1881 to Lot Title Hibbard, Spencer, Bartlett & Co., Chicago, Ill., 20 guns in shipment. Gray to brown patina overall with generally good metal showing many small nicks and marks on the bottom of the barrel and edges of the Lot Title cylinder from frontier use. All matching visible numbers including the cylinder. The barrel address is only about half visible but the 3 line patent dates are fully visible. The grips fit well with slight shrinkage and Lot Title small losses. The grips are definitely correct to the period. The front sight has been reduced slightly and the action is working well with fair to good bore. A representative early Colt SAA made while the Lot Title west was still “Wild and wooly”. (Antique) Est.: $2500-$5000
