Winchester Model 1860 Henry rifle, S/N 5808 with history belonging to S.J. Black, Virginia City, Nevada pioneer, who was murdered by his brother John L. Black. The henry rifle remains in original good to very Lot Title good condition showing a gray/brown patina finish on the barrel with faint traces of blue mixed in protected areas, and light to moderate erosion and surface pitting just starting. The right side of the barrel 5” Lot Title from the breech is stamped in large handheld dye stamped letters “S.J. Black”. The barrel address is sharp, the edges are crisp, and the rifle is fitted with a period handmade sighting tube in the original dovetail which Lot Title is V-notched at the bottom (A practical and good idea for shooting a Henry rifle). The brass frame is a mellow aged brass with tight side plates. Some edge wear, and also matching patina on the butt. The butt plate Lot Title is also stamped with the letters “SJB”. The buttstock is good with some weathering, wear, shrinkage from the metal, and general exposure to the elements but good overall. The hammer, lever and small parts show
