Magnificent Museum worthy silver and carved ivory Burmese Dha sword circa 1880. The splendid 5 inch ivory grip is deeply carved in relief on both sides with the Buddha on a stand amid foliage and vines. The carving isof the highest Japanese netsuke quality with all features of the face depicted. The heavy silver mounts are cast and chased in high relief with lotus flower pommel and mythical lions on the circular ricasso. The 23 and 1/2 inch razor sharp blade is inlaid throughout its length with heavy relief silver (not damascened) with figures, animals including an elephant, flowers and Brahmic script. The rosewood scabbard is entirely sheathed insilver panels. Condition overall is excellent with one long crack on left side of rosewood scabbard at to. Silver mounts are very fine. This is the finest sword of its type we have ever cataloged and is a true work of artthroughout. It measures 34 and 1/2 inches overall and will be a standout in anyone's edged weapons or ivory collection. Est.: $3000-$5000.
