Croatia - Hunt In Europe
CROATIA
Balkan Chamois or Muflon Sheep

Croatia is one of the best hunting destinations in Europe at present, offering a wide variety of game - European brown bear, Muflon sheep, Balkan chamois, European red deer, Fallow deer and trophy wild boar among other and excellent organization, lodging and services. Zagreb is connected with daily flights with most European capitals and the hunters may take their own rifles for the hunt. Croatia is at present the only destination in Europe with CITES that allows European brown bear hunts and one of the few destination that offer free range Muflon sheep hunts.

Muflon sheep hunts are organized on the Peljesac peninsula in Dalmatia. It is not a very demanding mountain hunt and it offers amazing views to the island of Korcula and the Mediterranean Sea. The nearest airport to the hunting area is located in Dubrovnik. Balkan chamois hunts are organized in the Biokovo Mountains, closest to airport Split. This is also an undemanding mountain hunt. The mild climate in the south of Croatia, touristic lodging and excellent local cuisine, make this hunt appealing to non - hunting observers as well.

Dubrovnik: Originally known as Ragusa and founded by Greek settlers, this historical city encloses many of the European historical eras. First a Roman republic, it passed under Byzantine protection during the Ottoman invasion and prospered as a commercial Mediterranean town until the earthquake that destroyed a large part of it in 1667. It was later under the Austrian rule and after the fall of the Austro - Hungarian empire it became one “oblast” of the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenians. It was under Italian Nazi rule during Wold War II and later became part of Yugoslavia. It suffered damage during the civil war in Yugoslavia, but was later reconstructed under UNESCO guidelines and is today one of the main touristic attractions in Dalmatia.

Split: Split is the largest coastal city in Croatia today, but it has started out as a Greek colony and later on as a Roman colony. It passed under the Hungarian empire, the Napoleon rule, Hapsburg rule and it was part of the Kingdom of Serbs, Croatians and Slovenians. During Wold War II it was under Italian control and afterwards it became part of Yugoslavia. With its long and complex history, it is one of the main touristic destinations in Dalmatia since the independence of Croatia.
