French late 18th century double flintlock shotgun signed “Simon A’ Paris” who held an appointment as maker to Royalty in the pre-revolutionary era. The gun shows fancy hallmarked silver mountings and the stock isfinely and ornately raised carved in floral motifs at the tang, cheek piece, fore end and surrounding the mountings. The barrel shows gold gilt on blue of which 80%-90% finish and gold gilt remains just toning naturally. The locks are original flint and show most gold lining in pans. Signed in script on both locks in fancy script. The stock is very good plus and has been expertly repaired at the wrist by master craftsman and we would nothave detected it but informed by our consignor of this $3,000 museum quality restoration. The tang shows an engraved portrait with in a sunburst which may indicate a descendent from the sun king or arelationship. Measures 46” overall with 30 ¾” barrels of 20GA smoothbore. A sophisticated and high quality double flintlock that may be researchable from engraved vignette on the tang. (Antique) Est.: $10,000-$20,000
