Japanese government official’s tanto (short) blade from Koto period. The fancy mountings show royal mum and are brass that was originally plated. The blade measures 13” and is not signed. The blade is in fair to goodcondition showing full temper with some erosion and rusting mostly on one side near hibach and about 1” x 1 ½” with some other minor areas of the same. Good quality blade. The scabbard shows some darkened to almostblack plating. The grip shows opening and loss to the area of seam where 2 pieces of grip were originally joined. This unusual official’s sword usually were the property of judges or other government officials of high rank. Est.: $250-$500
