Antique U.S. Military breechloading single-shot rifle chambered in .45-70 Government, circa 1870's-1880's. Features a blued 32.5" tapered barrel with two bands, blade front sight/bayonet lug, flip-up ladder rear sight graduated to 1.200 yards, brown leather sling, cleaning rod, smooth trigger, checkered hammer spur, and full length walnut shoulder stock with "U.S." marked metal buttplate. Markings: Breechblock - "[eagle head]/[crossed arrows]/US" Stock - circled "P" Barrel - V/P/[eagle head] & Lock - "U.S./Springfield/1873" and [eagle]/[arrows]. The barrel exhibits some remaining finish in the protected areas with the balance turned to dark brown patina. The lock is in-the-white with scattered pin-prick pitting and the breechblock shows a light grey patina. Action is strong, bore shows light scattered pin-prick pitting, and wood stock is near fine.
