Antique beech loading trapdoor rifle converted to resemble an 1879 Carbine. Features a blued 24" barrel, blade front sight, 1879 carbine rear sight, single barrel band with a sling swivel, installed saddle ring, case hardened breechblock, serrated trigger, knurled hammer spur and straight grip walnut shoulder stock with a smooth metal carbine buttplate. Markings: Barrel - "V/P/[eagle head]/P" & "A" Breechblock: "Model/1873/[eagle head]/[crossed arrows]/U.S." & "A" Receiver - "433752" Lock - [eagle with shield and clutched arrows] & "U.S./SPRINGFIELD" Buttplate - "U.S." and the Stock - circled "P" & an illegible cartouche on the left side. The barrel displays a nice aged brown patina, the receiver is dark with pin prick pitting throughout, the breechblock displays nice case colors on the surface while the underside is dull grey and the hammer & lock show an aged grey patina. The ram rod slot in the stock has been filled in and the same filler material can be found around the mounting areas for the saddle ring bar. The action is sound, the three land bore is good and the wood stock is good showing minor cracks & few losses. Condition is NRA Good. ***Antique Firearm***
