U.S. Springfield Model 1888 “Trapdoor” rifle, .45-70 caliber, 32.5” barrel, blued finish, wood stock, S/N 510911, with hooded front sight and ramrod bayonet. This rifle is in overall very good condition displaying apleasing brown patina to the barrel and considerable original blue on the lockplate; the action and markings are crisp, the bore is very good and the stock is overall very good with an “F 9 1” stamped on the toprear of the butt stock and a “1” stamped on the top of the iron butt plate. There is a combination tool and a shell extractor device in the butt trap of this gun and a clear “SWP/1890” inspector’s cartouche on the leftside of the stock above the trigger; the circle “P” proof behind the lower tang is also clear.
