OWEN EVANS. Cal. 72. NSN. Owen Evans of Evansburg had a contract for 1,000 muskets. Bbl. 44" w/ Liberty cap "P" proof & lightly struck "CP" on breech end is also stamped "Pa" & w/ remnants of other regimental marking along top. Lock w/ Chamfered & shaped plate features usual reinforced cock, faceted integral pan, bridled frizzen & feather spring w/ bulbous finial & teat. Stock w/ deeply fluted comb has Charleville style iron mts. & has 3 spring retained bbl. bands. Sling loops are present along w/ what appears to be original iron ramrod w/ trumpet head. CONDITION: fine as refinished many years ago. All metal parts w/ dark brown smooth patina. Stock w/ old varnish or lacquer finish which shows considerable crazing & attic burn. Stock is sound w/ some old marks around lock & some shrinkage cracks at butt. Bbl. channel is good w/ 1 thin 5" piece missing on right side & some associated cracks. Lock is operable. Pitted bore. An attractive example of this important American military musket. PROVENANCE: The Estate Collection of Gary Parietti. (01-19777/MGM). ANTIQUE. $2,000-3,000.
