Matched Pair of Queen Anne Style Single Shot Flintlock Pistols, by C. Williamson, Liverpool, England, NVSN, approx. .60 cal. smoothbore, 6-7/8'' tapered round barrels with three-stage rings and cannon turned muzzles, marked ''C. Williamson / Liverpool'' and three (3) proofmarks below breeches with lovely floral engraving on top of barrels and rear tangs, delicate border engraving at frame sides and bottoms, and ovals on triggerguard loops. Early style triggers with curled tails. Deeply relief chased silver grotesque mask buttcaps, Stands of Arms with flags and cannons opposite locks, and wrist escutcheons having hunting motifs surmounted by a helmet and a vacant oval nameplate area. European hardwood stocks with vine-like carving surrounding top barrel tangs, and extensive fine silver wire inlays in scrolling floral patterns. Pistols appear to be reconverted back to their flintlock configuration, one having deep pitting at touchhole, and with uniquely designed frizzen springs characteristic of this maker. Condition is good to very good with a light age patina to iron parts and clear markings. Stocks show age and are good: one with a repaired longitudinal crack on both sides of wrist, the other missing the silver stand of arms opposite lock. Actions are tight and crisp, bores appear clean. Est.: $2,000-$3,000/pair. (Antique)
