WWI era U.S. Army contract large frame double-action service revolver chambered in .45 Auto. Features a blued finish, pinned 5.5" tapered barrel, forged round blade front sight, "u" notched rear sight, fluted six-shot swing-out cylinder, non-shrouded ejector rod, case hardened .265" smooth trigger, case hardened .265" hammer with knurled spur, five screw square butt N service frame with lanyard ring on the butt, and smooth walnut grips. Matching serial numbers are found on the frame, barrel, cylinder, extractor star. Other Markings: Frame - [flaming bomb], and on butt: "U.S/ARMY/MODEL/1917" & "No/64/081”. Barrel - "UNITED STATES PROPERTY", "SMITH & WESSON SPRINGFIELD MASS. U.S.A./PATENTED DEC.17.1901. FEB.6.1906. SEP.14.1909", "S.& W. D.A. 45", "64081". Bore and charge holes are very good condition, slight frosting in barrel. Revolver retains approximately 85% of its original blued finish showing some holster wear, scattered scratches, thinning and fading on back strap, several small bare metal scuffs on barrel, cylinder drag line. Case colors on trigger & hammer show bright colors, very small amount of patina on sides of hammer. Walnut grips are very good, some dents, slightly darker color on right panel appears to be from handling. Action is smooth with tight lock-up. Markings are crisp. Includes US WWI type brown leather flap holster, good or better condition (retains bottom plug with brass lanyard ring), marked on back "G& K / 1917 / AG", "US" on flap.
