Bighorn Sheep license on the Chancellor Ranch

The Rocky Mountain Bighorn Society is pleased to offer a Colorado Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep hunting license for auction at the 2018 Bighorn Rendezvous in Denver on April 28, 2018. This license is valid on the Chancellor Ranch State Trust Land property located in Game Management Unit S61 in Southeast Colorado. The Purgatoire Canyon bighorn sheep herd is one of the largest in the state with a population estimate of over 400 animals. This herd is known for producing rams with larger than average bases for the state, with harvests over the last five years averaging over 15.5 inches. Rams qualifying for Boone and Crockett records entry have been harvested in the unit. In 2017 one sheep hunter was allowed on the Chancellor Ranch for the first time in many years. He harvested a ram that net scored over 180 inches.
The winner of this auction will be the only sheep hunter on the ranch in 2018. Chancellor Ranch consists of 51,000 acres of rocky canyons, rolling grasslands, plateaus, cliffs, and mesa tops at approximately 5500 feet above sea level. The ranch terrain is less rugged and easier to access than typical Colorado bighorn sheep habitat. This is a free range, fair chase hunting opportunity. The high bidder will receive a license for one bighorn ram, valid September 1-30 and December 1-31, 2018. Ram license is only valid within the boundaries of the Chancellor Ranch. For more information please contact RMBS at (720) 201-3791.

Steve Wooten and Chaquaco Cattle company assisted the 2017 hunter with his hunt and have generously offered to assist the 2018 tag holder. For information on their services call Steve at (719) 384-5813

Thank you to the Colorado State Land Board and Colorado Parks and Wildlife for making this unique opportunity available.
