JOHANN SPRINGER. Cal. 16 Ga. 2 3/4". S# 9465. The 28" monoblocked bbls. fitted with slightly raised matted rib are engraved with Springer's name and address on top left bbl. and retailer's name "K.K. Hammer" on right. Bbl. flats are stamped with Vienna nitro proofs with a date of 1905 and reproofs for 2005 with sleeving of bbls. Coin finished boxlock action fitted with ornamental sideplates features automatic safety, hidden crossbolt third fastener, side clips and double triggers (front articulated). Action and sideplates are engraved with near full coverage distinctive Viennese scroll within scroll and line borders. Maker's name and address along with retailer are on banners on sideplates and also engraved on trigger plate. Round knob pistol grip buttstock of well marbled and lightly figured European walnut measures 14 1/2" over Silver type pad. Stock features right hand shadowline cheekpiece, point pattern checkering at grip, and a vacant silver oval at rear of toe line. A sling eye has been removed from toeline and holes are in bottom rib of bbl. MEASUREMENTS: BBLS.: Bore Diameter: R: .660", L: .660". Restrictions: R: .013" (MOD), L: .035" (FULL). Sleeved bbls. retaining nearly all of a reblack, engraving picked up. Action is cleaned to pewter gray over considerable pitting, some areas have engraving very thin. Stocks retain nearly all of an oil refinish, checkering recut. Bores are bright and shiny. Action is tight. Ejectors are occasionally live. Stock split is repaired by bolt through wrist.
