1795 SPRINGFIELD MUSKET TYPE I WITH 1802 DATED

BUTTPLATE. Cal. 69. NSN. Bbl. 44 1/2" w/ “P”, eagle head & “V” proofs at rear along w/ deeply stamped “AB” (?), “S” & “US”. Standard configuration. Bbl. is reconverted from percussion drum & nipple. Type one undated lock is reconverted w/ repro parts. Eagle over US is in front of cock & “SPRINGFIELD” is in an arch laterally. Walnut stock has deeply fluted comb & attaches to bbl. w/ 3 spring retained bands. Triggerguard has spear finials & buttplate is dated “1802” on tang. One piece sling loop is in stud on triggerguard, missing from central band. An old trumpet head steel ramrod is present. It looks as though there are traces of inspectors' stamps behind the sideplate. CONDITION: good as reconverted. Iron parts exhibiting dark brown patina. Breech portion of bbl. shows heavy loss due to rusting. Wood has good, old, hand worn surface w/ numerous light & heavy marks. There is a chip of wood missing from top rear behind lock plate as well as along left side of bbl. tang. Bbl. channel shows numerous losses & some repair. Rusted bore. Lock operable. (01-20132/MGM).
