1841 DATED HARPERS FERRY PERCUSSION CONVERSION
MUSKET. Cal. .69. NSN. Federal armory alteration of Harpers Ferry flintlock to percussion via “Belgium system” of plugging barrels vent & threading nipple into barrel. The original lock plate had percussion hammer fitted w/ removal of flintlock components. This is an honest complete example of one of over 300,000 conversions made prior to the Civil War of which many were issued to volunteers in 1861. 42” Round bbl. has VP Eagle head proofs on left side of breech, “1841” on tang & small “53” possibly alteration number stamped rear of nipple. Lock has small eagle above “US” forward of hammer & “HARPERS / FERRY / 1841” stamped vertically at tail. CONDITION: very good overall, complete & matching including sling swivels & ramrod, iron patina w/ pitting, markings all discernible, stock is sound & well fit, old sanding, moderate edge wear, no discernible inspection cartouche.
