1844 DATED COMMON RIFLE BY H DERRINGER CONVERTED

FROM PERCUSSION. Cal. 52. NSN. Bbl. 36", rifled w/ 7 grooves, stamped "US" & w/ "P" proof at breech end & w/ "NWP" inspector's initials. Tang dated "1844". It appears bbl. was originally converted to percussion using the Belgian system; area where nipple used to be is welded over. Lock w/ "US", "DERRINGER" "PHILA" markings is dated 1844 on tail & has been converted to flint w/ a mix of old & reproduction parts. Iron mounted & banded on stock appears to be of oak & has inspector's marks "WEF" (?) & another indecipherable on left side opposite lock. Trigger guard does not have grip spur & sling loop is at front of bow. Stock is fitted w/ usual patch box having oval steel hinged cover. CONDITION: bbl. w/ traces of original brown. Lockplate also w/ traces of color hardening. Stock w/ old refinish over numerous light & heavy marks. Lock is operable. Good bore w/ scattered pitting, rifling strong.
