CONVERSION MUSKET. Cal. 69. NSN. Bbl. 43" including breech. Remington supplied 20,000 locks & patent breeches to Frankford Arsenal to convert Model 1816 flintlock muskets to percussion w/ the Maynard tape primer system. This example has the normal Remington markings rear of lock dated 1858 & a matching 1858 on bbl. tang. Stock still retains its earlier inspectors cartouche & has “N. J” on left breech, showing New Jersey ownership. This was a popular musket at beginning of Civil War that saw use. CONDITION: good to very good overall; appears complete & original w/ exception of broken rear sling swivel & ramrod which lacks threading. Stock is cut under middle band & forestock loose. Metal has mottled iron patina w/ pitting at breech & on Maynard tape door. (01-18429/JS). ANTIQUE. $800-1,200.
