1874 Sharps Heavy Barrel Sporting Rifle, .44 cal., serial #155017. The rifle is in overall very good condition with a 30” heavy octagon barrel. The rifle sports a silver blade front and ladder rear sights. Thebarrel and receiver have drifted to a sliver-grey patina with small amounts of blue and case hardening apparent in protected areas. There are two sets of serial numbers on the barrel flat with one set in smallerfont matching the number on the tang. The smooth wood stocks appear to have been replaced. The stocks show small mars, compressions and a 2” crack on the right side of the fore end. Additionally, the stockfeatures a pewter fore end cap and checkered metal butt plate. The bore is very good, the action crisp and markings are sharp. A factory letter accompanies the rifle indicating the original invoice date of March 3, 1876 with shipment to noted Western Sharp’s dealer Carlos Gove and Sons of Denver, Colorado.
