18AF-1 COLT 62 #1922Colt Model 1862 Police conversion revolver, .36 caliber, 5.5” barrel, blued and case hardened finish, wood grips, S/N 1922, inscribed “HZO” on butt strap with provenance to Henry Z. Osborne, a member of the 192ndNew York Volunteers, publisher of the Bodie (California) Daily Free Press (1878 to 1884), later the publisher of the Los Angeles (California) Evening Express (1884-1897) and in 1897, appointed U.S. Marshal for theDistrict of Southern California. Also according to the consignor’s research, Osborne was elected in 1917 to Congress from California’s 10th District. The gun is in overall good condition displaying a pleasingbrown patina to metal surfaces with hints of original blue and case colors in protected areas; crisp action, overall good bore, left rear toe of grips show an old loss; the front of the ejector rod displays an old repair.Accompanying this Colt is Osborne’s Bodie newspaper identification badge (“Daily Free Press”) in the shape of a U.S. shield; a letterhead from the U.S. Marshal’s office dated June 10, 1902, with Osborne’s name onColt Model 1862 Police conversion revolver, .36 caliber, 5.5” barrel, blued and case hardened finish, wood grips, S/N 1922, inscribed “HZO” on butt strap with provenance to Henry Z.
