Large framed and matted display regarding famed Chief U.S. Marshal E.D. Nix, Guthrie, Indian Territory; approximately 18.5” x 30.5” overall and including an original Sept. 22, 1893-dated posse comitatus document,approximately 12.5” x 8” overall for the arrest of William T. Henderson and George T. Luity, signed by E.D. Nix, U.S. Marshal for the Territory of Oklahoma. Also included in the framing is a color portrait of U.S.Marshal Nix, a Commemorative badge of the U.S. Marshal and a summary of his life which includes information that he was born in Kentucky on September 19, 1861, worked in the grocery and hardware business until 1889when he moved to Oklahoma where he entered the general merchandise business in Guthrie. As crime increased in the area, he applied to Washington, D.C. for a Federal Marshal commission. He was appointed in 1893 as U.S. Marshal for the Oklahoma Territory and served during the closing years of the Old West and during the last years of the “Hanging Judge” Parker’s tenure.
