18CF-1 BOOK CASED PAIR OF M&HPair of Merwin & Hulbert Pocket Army revovlers engraved, nickel plated with pearl grips in presentation style book casing. Both pistols show 3 ¼” barrels in .44-40 caliber with birds head shape grips and piercing forlanyard loop along with early scooped flutes and “Open Tops”, S/N 1706 and 1788. Serial number 1706 shows profuse New York scroll engraving in the style of L.D. Nimschke and 90%-95% old re-nickel remains with good edges and markings. The action revolves but does not lock up and fair to good bore. Serial number 1788 shows “Floral Intaglio” or pinprick style with bird scene in the panel. 98% nickel remains and marking and edges arelight from polishing. The grips are good, the front has been slimmed, and the action is working with fair to good bore. The casing is correctly made and shows age and may have been added when the pistols were re-nickeledlong ago. The book shows leather binder and titled “Leslie’s Newspaper”. Measures 16” x 11 ¼” by 2 ¼” deep. Out of an old collection in Florida.
