A splendid New York, likely Louis D. Nimschke, panel scene engraved, large Otis Smith .38 rimfire revolver. Marked “Smith’s Patent April 15 No. 38” with rosewood grips. Engraved with Nimschke’s characteristic Lot Title starbursts and boldly cut scrolls in nearly full coverage, the left side of the frame features a panel with finely executed portrait of a lady wearing a hat with ostrich plume and necklace. Portrait closely Lot Title resembles one pull on page 61 of the Nimschke Scrapbook, possibly Lola Montez. All engraving is crisp showing almost no wear. Revolver retains most of its original bright nickel finish. Rosewood grips are excellent Lot Title with nearly all their high polish piano varnish. A beautiful example of this scarce revolver with a very rare and desirable panel scene. Serial number 590. Note: Lola Montez was a famous performer on the San Francisco Lot Title Bowery in the 19th century. (Antique) Est.: $2500-$5000
