Merrill First Type Model 1863 Saddle Ring percussion breech loading carbine, .54 caliber, Serial #2386. The carbine is in good overall condition with a 22” round barrel. The barrel has gone to an even greypatina with areas of light surface erosion and small mars. The receiver has gone to a toned silver patina with the saddle ring intact and all matching visible serial numbers. The carbine features all brasshardware, barrel band, trigger guard, patch box and butt plate. The smooth wood stock is in good condition showing heavy use with mars and dents and features the brass patch box with spare nipple found in the FirstType. The bore in fair, the action is crisp and the markings are sharp on this Civil War era carbine manufactured in Baltimore, Maryland. Est.: $900-$1,800. (Antique).
