Metal circular Civil War era canteen with woven fabric carry strap, approximately 8” in diameter with painted inscription: “61-red, white and blue chevron-65/E. D. Baker/Co. “E” 27th O.V.I./Shiloh/Kennesaw Mountain” and other markings partially visible; heavy dark patina to canteen with partial red painted trim to body and spout; many old dents; partial old cork stopper remains. Accompanied by copies of service and pensionrecords from the National Archives indicating Emanuel D. Baker was a Private in the 27th Ohio Infantry, enlisting on Aug. 1, 1861, mustering into the Veteran Vols. on Dec. 31, 1863; saw service in Missouri, Tennessee,Mississippi, Georgia and Kentucky until mustering out on July 11, 1865.
