US Springfield Model 1884 Trapdoor rifle, .45-70 caliber, Serial #521785. The rifle is in very good overall condition with a 32” barrel with a hooded front and military tangent style rear sights. The barrel is a pleasing brown patina while the action and side plate show old, muted case hardening. The rifle features sling swivels and a ramrod bayonet. The smooth wood stock is in good condition with small mars and compressions consistent with carry and use. The butt stock has a crisp Circle P cartouche behind the trigger guard and “SWP 1891” on the left side above the trigger guard. The butt ends with a steel crescent butt plate with trap and is marked US and “50” on the butt plate indicating a rack number. The rifle includes a period leather military style sling. The bore is fair, the action crisp and markings are sharp. Est.: $600-$1,200. (Antique).
