Colt 1849 Pocket Model .31 caliber percussion showing original cloud scroll type engraving with small panel scenes on each side of the barrel lug. The barrel measures 5” showing gray patina finish, and burl wood grips, S/N 38172. The barrel address is hand cut with “Sam’L Colt” in fancy script lettering. The Colt’s patent in banner also hand cut with fancy and tight early “Cloud Scrolls”. The left side of the lug shows running stag with fox on the right. Only approximately a dozen panel scene engraved percussions are known and are very desirable to students of engraved Colt’s. Gray to brown patina finish with some light erosion and pinprick pitting. The barrel has been set back slightly on the frame pins to re-secure. The grips are lightly refinished but are the originals. Matching visible numbers except on cylinder which is numbered 86761 with 60%-70% scene. Probably a change during period of use as color matches overall condition. A fair example of a rare and deluxe pattern that would be very expensive with high condition. (Antique) Est.: $2500-$5000
