Authentic period engraved 1860 Henry rife attributed to L.D. Nimschke and pictured on Page 20 of “Winchester, An American Legend” by R.L. Wilson in full page color plate, S/N 5355. Approximately 75%-85% original bright blue showing on barrel with some thinning on the tube, minor areas of light erosion and pinprick pitting. Natural minor toning and aging. Crisp and sharp address and markings. (Note: bright muzzle and interior of magazine). Absolutely original finish. The frame is deluxe engraved in profuse Nimschke style with excellent scrolls, shells, banners and many identifiable L.D.N. characteristics. The frame and butt plate show 90%-95% satin color nickel finish that is uncleaned and nicely patina. The lever has drifted to 20%-30% nickel and balance patina. The hammer shows most nickel with coating of dried oil. The bolt and extractor show original finish. The interior has seen very little use and the bore is bright. The stock is in near fine condition with some minor scratches and dents and minimal aging. Most all original varnish is retained and fits up impeccably. The stock and butt plate are matching. The original sling swivels are retained. A later Winchester sight is in rear dovetail (Finish Matches). A well-documented and authentically engraved Henry rifle known to collecting fraternity for many decades and with excellent publication history. Lots of others look like this but are “Pretenders”. The real deal. 10% buyer’s premium on this lot. (Antique) Est.: $60,000-$120,000
