Colt Model 1911 U.S. Property marked "Black Army" .45 ACP cal., semi automatic pistol with history as belonging to John Hudson Poole. J.H. Poole graduated West Point in 1901. He served as a Captain assisting Chief of Engineers in the Philippines and as Disbursing Officer in Manila. Between 1905-1910 he served as aide to Theodore "Teddy" Roosevelt and as Superintendent of State of War Department Building, Washington DC. He retired in 1910 and was active in Minnisota mining until 1917, when he was assigned to the staff of John "Black Jack" Pershing. He received many decorations and was discharged with the rank of Colonel. He married Caroline M. Boing and moved to Pasadena, CA. His son, John Hudson died in 1940. This exact pistol and accompanying artifacts were obtained by Robert O. McDearmon, noted antique collector and dealer from J. H. Poole Jr. in Newport Beach circa 1995 with a notarized affadavit. The Colt remains in almost fine original condition, with 95-98% original military finish, minimal aging. Grips are very good plus with minor staining, correct barrel, clip and small parts. With photo of this officer, and 1917 dated Perkins-Cambell holster. Also included is Poole's staff and field officer's sword by Springfield Armory in fine condition wtih his name etched on the blade.
