18TH CENTURY BRITISH OR EUROPEAN SMALL SWORD.

Overall length: 38 3/4". Blade length: 31 3/4". The triangular formed blade has blue & gilt decoration extending 9" up from the hilt. Gilt highlighted etching includes sprays of arms & foliate motifs. Near the hilt are 2 panels each etched, “Me Fecito Sohlingen”. Brass hilt w/ reeded decoration to guard, pas d'ane, knuckle bow & pommel. The underside of the guard has the commemorative inscription, “Taken by Capt John Knox Quebec 1759”. Grip is copper wire wrapped w/ turks head knots above & below. No scabbard. CONDITION: blade shows minor discoloration particularly near the tip. Blue & gilt decoration remains amazingly crisp. Hilt is quite solid but quillon is bent. Grip is complete. (02-16673-11/BF). $1,000-1,500.
