18TH OR VERY EARLY 19TH CENTURY BOOT KNIFE.

Overall length: 8 1/2". Blade length: 5". A very interesting & well constructed boot knife that resembles a miniature cutlass, particularly in the hilt area. The plain blade has a false edge extending 2 1/2" from the tip. The forged iron crossguard & knuckle bow terminates on 1 end with a recurved quillon & on the other with a flat pommel. There is a 1 piece cylindrical wood grip with forged iron ferrules both above & below. Sheath is black finished leather with a crude sewn lap seam. CONDITION: blade has a dark overall patina. The guard & knuckle bow have a dark oxidized patina that is shared with the ferrules. The grip has a wonderful deep patina with expected dents & dings. The sheath shows no damage or losses.
