Cal. 270 Win. S# 16619. High quality sporting rifle with 24" light weight barrel fitted with silver bead in matted ramp. Caliber designation and Belgian proofs are on left rear. FN type model 98 Mauser action has maker's name and address on solid sidewall and FN logo on receiver ring. Bolt, with typical FN handle is polished bright. Original safety replaced by model 70 type in early style shroud. Bottom metal has removable floorplate with pin type release. Double set triggers have been installed. Capped pistol grip buttstock of lightly figured and streaked European walnut is oil finished and measures 13-1/2" over FN marked basket weave hard rubber buttplate with deeply embossed Roebucks head. Stock features swept right hand cheekpiece, hard rubber grip cap and stock bolt. Hand cut point pattern checkering wraps around forend and has beaded border at bottom of grip. Rifle is fitted with a leather sling. A Leupold Vari-X III 2.5X8 scope with duplex reticle is in Redfield rings and two piece bases. CONDITION: very fine. Metal retaining over 95% original rust blue. Temper blue remains very strong on bolt release. Stock finish is fine with a fair number of marks in original finish, some diamonds are missing from checkering. Bore is bright and shiny. Scope is good; optically clear. (23-4648/MGM). CURIO. $1,000-1,500.
