70 RIFLE WITH SCHMIDT & BENDER SCOPE. Cal. 375 H&H. S# 22707 (on action). Griffin & Howe #2366 (on barrel). The 24" medium weight sporter barrel is fitted with sleeved on sling eye and front sight ramp holding gold bead with knurled protector. Muzzle has been ported. Top of barrel is engraved "No. 2366 Griffin & Howe Inc. New York", caliber is engraved at left rear. Pre-war model 70 action has had serial number removed and re-engraved along with stippling of receiver ring. Action has been opened to accept the 375 H&H cartridge. A G&H sidemount is installed along with a Lyman model 48 base with blank slide. Bolt body and follower are engine turned. A commercial trigger has been fitted (Canjar ?). Bottom metal has had bow altered with the addition of a floorplate release button. Pistol grip stock of lightly fiddle figured American walnut has classic G&H styling and measures 14 1/8" over Silver type pad. Stock features swept shadow line right hand cheekpiece, horn forend tip, recoil bolt, steel grip cap, and point pattern checkering with mullered borders at grip and around forend. Toeline is fitted with sling stud and has a gold oval engraved "NEJ". Rifle is fitted with a brown leather sling in QD loops. Rifle also comes with Schmidt & Bender 1.4-4X Zenith scope with three post and crosshair reticle in G&H rings and slide. CONDITION: fine, metal retaining about 80% original blue, most wear is evident on bottom metal. Stock retains nearly all oil finish with a scattering of marks and a few fairly deep scratches. Bore is bright and shiny, mechanically fine, scope is very fine close to "as new", optically clear. (22-5798/MGM). CURIO. $3,500-5,500.
