U.S. M1 Garand semi-automatic rifle by Winchester, .30 caliber, 24” barrel measuring per consignor, TE=3.0 and MW=2.5, military finish, wood stock, S/N 1605036; overall very good condition with a very good bore, crisp action, sharp markings and very good stock displaying circle P proof and WRA/GHD and crossed cannons cartouches, L-80 painted in yellow on the left side of butt stock. Consignor notes include “Winchester and Springfield were the only two manufacturers of M1 Garands in WW II. Each manufacturer reserved blocks of serial numbers and did not share numbers. The EXCEPTION is these elusive “Win-13” variation Winchesters. These rifles with the serial numbers in the 1,600,000 range do not make sense being that 1,600,000 was assigned previously to Springfield Armory. Winchester had production rifles in the 2,5x,xxx number range in early January 1945 and suddenly and inexplicable started producing rifles with a lower serial numbe3r range starting with 1, 601,000. This series of serial numbers continued through Winchester’s final
