Colt U.S. Cavalry SAA revolver, .45 caliber, 7.5” barrel, grey patina, wood grips with “30/CP” stamped on both sides, S/N 15558 (“L” sub-inspector marked – Samuel B. Lewis; no visible cartouches on grips); overall good condition with crisp action, good markings and worn but overall good grips; accompanied by a Kopec letter providing information on this serial number range. He also opines that the markings on the grips may indicate the revolver at one time belonged to a police department whose city name began with the letter “C”, the number possibly indicating the badge number of the policeman to whom it had been issued (consignor notes grips are pictured in Cochran’s book); finally, Kopec’s analysis indicates “the revolver has sustained the following observed modification since leaving the supervision of the Ordnance Dept: 1). The barrel has been lengthened from a previously shortened condition and a new front sight fitted. The carbon pocks of the welded joint may still be observed. 2). The base-pin (cylinder pin) is a modern replacement. 3). The ejector
