Colt 1st Model Dragoon contract or so called “Fluck” series, S/N 2274. This revolver was found in a Texas pioneer family by noted old time Colt collector “Jim” Volgaris of Fredricksburg. The barrel is numbered 2101, the frame S/N 2274, The cylinder S/N 2202, trigger guard S/N 2274, and back strap S/N 2047 (All Fluck small numbered parts associated during period of use in Mexican American war era and of the type used by the early Texas Rangers and western stationed mounted troops). The cylinder shows 30%-50% cylinder scene with a couple we defined figures. Good early markings. Including small “P”s. Scattered light to moderate pitting. A stress crack evident behind trigger screw in frame. Good grips with an old repair at the right toe and small loss at the left. Cocks and revolves well with tight lock up. There has long been a controversy in Colt field as to the exact circumstances and production sequence in relationship to early 1st models. Basically all agree they were early and went west at the end of 1847. Also many found around Monterey and San Francisco indicating
