Desirable Colt First Model Dragoon percussion revolver with scarce “U.S. Dragoons” cylinder scene, .44 caliber, 7.5” barrel, even dark patina to metal surfaces, considerable areas of silver wash to trigger guard and back strap, wood grips, S/N 7962 (all matching except barrel wedge which is un-numbered); overall good to very good condition with majority of cylinder scene remaining, crisp action, sharp markings, grips are good with wear from carry, some minor old mars which is to be expected and a small old loss to the bottom front toe of the left side of the grip. Accompanying this First Model Dragoon is a typewritten letter covering information on it and noting it was previously in the Romaine Fielding Collection and purchased from legendary arms collector and dealer, Theodore Dexter, on October 4, 1963 by consignor’s father-in-law, Dr. Robert Dalrymple. It is our opinion that this is one of the finest First Model Dragoons seen in years given the hard use they saw during the California Gold Rush and Civil War periods. Set your sights up for this historic piece! (Antique). Est.: $10,000-$20,000.
