19NX-2 WINCHESTER MODEL 21
Winchester Model 21 Factory Pigeon grade 20 gauge shotgun with 28” barrels with a ventilated rib choked WS1 and WS 2. The shotgun is marked, “CUSTOM BUILT BY WINCHESTER FOR WILLIAM C. MERTZ” on the rear of the vent rib. Additionally, the trigger guard has the initials WCM and the engraved grip cap reads “PIGEON GRADE” inlayed in gold. The shotgun is well engraved in a Style 6 pattern with fancy high quality “A” carved wood stock and fore end. Made in 1975, the shotgun is Serial #32179. W.C. Mertz was the co-owner of Winchester Trap and Skeet range in Los Angeles. This shotgun and another Pigeon Grade were, by family tradition, presentations to W.C. Mertz and his brother. Mr. Mertz recently passed away at nearly 100 years of age and as a result this shotgun is consigned by his heirs.
The shotgun remains in fine to excellent condition retaining 96%-99% original finish on the metal, with minor storage and use marks on the stocks. The shotgun has seen limited firing and use. The butt stock measures 14” to the end of an English style leather pad. The shotgun has a single trigger, auto ejectors and 3” chambers. This exclusive shotgun is one of only 22 made by Winchester. Please refer to Winchester’s Finest, “The Model 21” by Ned Schwing. On pages 299-304 a similar, not as fancy, engraved specimen is illustrated. Est.: $15,000-$30,000. (Modern).
