“H.E. Leman Lancaster” marked (On Lock) percussion plains rifle with fancy patch box and barrel shortened during period of use to 23”. .41 caliber rifled barrel of standard weight and brass mountings. The stock showsnatural “Fiddleback” stripping. The barrel has been re-secured to stock by removing pins and adding wire. The action works when the triggers are set but otherwise does not hold on full cock. Deep patina and fair to goodoverall. Found in Colusa, CA in gold rush area by early collector who purchased from family of settlers who carried this rifle west. Note: The small side plate and screw removed and hole enlarged.
