19TH CENTURY CEREMONIAL NATIVE AMERICAN PIPE

TOMAHAWK. Overall length: 24 1/2". Head measures 8" x 3 1/2". This pipe tomahawk appears to date from the mid to late 1800s. The wooden haft is shaped & has brass tack decoration on 1 side. The head appears to be pewter & the bowl is beautifully inlaid w/ catlinite. There are 5 brass tacks on each side of the flat of the blade. The eye has 3 brass tacks on 1 side & 2 brass tacks on the other. CONDITION: the haft is solid & undamaged but shows notable wear. There is 1 brass tack missing from the decoration. The head has a sm. break on the top near the simulated cutting edge. There is 1 tack missing on the left side of the eye. The right side has 2 missing. (02-15840/BF). $1,200-1,600.
