Rare and Genuine 19th Century U.S. Patent Office Model ''Feeder for Machine Guns'', Patent No. 189811 granted to J.P Taylor on Apr. 17, 1877, being a wooden device on a flat base measuring 11.25'' long by 7'' at the widest, consisting of 6 vertical wood dividers (one broken, but present), apparently arranged to feed rows of cartridges into the breech of a machine gun. Measuring 7.75'' high, the device is simple yet well made. Accompanying the model is a clear plastic holder containing a 3''x3.25'' manila card tag marked ''No. 189811/J.P. Taylor/Feeder for Machine Guns/Patented Apr. 17th/1877/Machine Guns'', another having the same basic information, and a smaller tag reading ''1877 / J.P. Taylor/Feeder Hopper for Guns/Received April 5th/77,'' the three being joined by a faded red ribbon; also a modern yellow tag regarding provenance from the Cliff Petersen Collection of U.S. Patent Models. Condition of the model is very good, the 1877 tags are somewhat fragile as expected. Est.: $250-$450.
