1) SPORTERIZED MODEL 78 VETTERLI RIFLE. Cal. 10.4x38 (41 Swiss Rimfire). S# 193323. Bbl. 33". Receiver marked on left side “M.78” then “WAFFENFABRIK BERN”. All visible numbers match. Tangent rear sight graduated to 1200 schritt. Blade front sight. Rifle has been sporterized by removal of bbl. bands, shortening mag. tube & forend approx. 16 1/2" ahead of receiver. CONDITION: stock set has been refinished w/ wear, dents, staining & scratches throughout. Forend had wood removed on the finial approx. 9" of the bbl. channel. Buttstock has notable gouge on right side of grip. Metal has traces of blue turning overall gray & patina w/ light oxidation & very fine pitting throughout. Bore is turning dark w/ scattered, moderate pitting & sharp lands. (01-18070/RW). 2) MODEL 1871 INFANTRY RIFLE. Cal. 10.4x38 (41 Swiss Rimfire). S# 81373. Bbl. 33". Numbers match on receiver, bbl., follower & buttplate. Fine example of the Model 71 rifle which replaced the Model 1869 w/ several improvements. Receiver marked on left side “SOC. IND. SUISSE SYST. VETTERLIN”. Rear sight is earlier type graduated to 1000 schritt. Blade front sight. Cleaning rod is present. Bottom swivels. Walnut stock set. Forend has crosshatched type checkering. Forend & buttstock marked on right side w/ “V” in shield acceptance marks. Buttstock marked on top w/ boxed “D6”, Swiss cross & “CI”. CONDITION: stock set has light wear & handling marks, showing careful use. Metal has 85% original blue finish w/ thinning & light wear. Very good, shiny bore w/ sharp rifling. (01-18078/RW).
