1) BOLT ACTION BY H. DORWAL. Cal. 8x57. NSN. Bbl. 24" lightweight, marked "H DORWAL MODEL 98-8mm" on top. Rifle fitted w/ 1 standing, 2 folding leaf rear sight in island base & silver bead front in matted ramp. Belgian proofs on bbl. & sm. ring Mauser 98 action, which has had follower altered to allow bolt to close. Bolt body is engine turned. Bottom metal has had bow shaped. Horn capped pistol grip stock of well figured European walnut measures 14" over ribbed horn buttplate & features checkering at grip & forend, schnabeled tip & sling eyes. CONDITION: fine. Metal parts retaining most of what appears to be custom blue applied by maker. Stock w/ its original finish has some minor marks. Bore appears to be good to very good, but is dirty. Rifling is strong. Mechanically good. (21-1929/MGM).
2)BETTER QUALITY MODEL 98. Cal. 8x57 JS. S# 5503 (on bottom metal). Bbl. 24". This particular specimen was made up to look like a rifle by J. P. Sauer & Co. Bbl. has soldered on Sauer styled matted rib, which is fitted w/ one folding leaf rear & silver bead front sights. Model 98 lg. ring action is drilled & tapped for scope, has had bolt handle turned down, low scope safety fitted & a commercial trigger installed. Military bottom metal has lock screws. Action & floorplate engraved in a style reminiscent of that found on J. P. Sauer rifles w/ line borders & some very simple scrolling. Capped pistol grip stock is of streaked European walnut & features Model 70 type steel buttplate, shadow line cheekpiece, schnabeled tip, checkering at grip & sling loops. CONDITION: metal retaining about 20% of its custom blue, mostly silver on bottom from hand wear. Stock w/ most of its original finish. Fair to good bore, dark in grooves. Mechanically good.
