FLASKS & MORE.
1) TINTYPE. A sixth plate tintype depicting a full standing Union Corporal in a 9 button frock coat w/ kepi. The soldier is also wearing a US belt & belt plate w/ an eagle crossbelt plate on belt. He is further outfitted w/ a knife & single shot pistol in his belt along w/ a rifle w/ fixed bayonet. Photograph is housed in a fine patriotic frame w/ a patriotic thermoplastic case featuring the “CONSTITUTION AND THE LAWS” motif. CONDITION: image is slightly dark but remains quite crisp. Mat is like new & the case has a crack at the top of the back half.
2) TINTYPE. A sixth plate tintype depicting a waist up view of a seated Union enlisted man wearing a 4 button sack coat w/ kepi. Soldier appears to be a member of the Cavalry & is wearing tinted blue pants. He also wears a M1851 belt plate & belt w/ a pistol cartridge box attached. Soldier is holding an M1860 Colt Army pistol in his right hand across his chest. Photograph is housed in a fine patriotic mat w/ an early, leather covered, wooden, 3 piece case. CONDITION: image remains crisp w/ no damage. Mat has a few spots of oxidation. The right side of the 3 piece case is detached.
3) WEEKLY CALENDAR. A nice example of a bone, work week, pocket calendar w/ separate bone “pages” for each day that were normally written on in pencil. There is no page for Sunday as it was the day of rest & the Lord’s day. German silver clasp & shield escutcheon on the front. CONDITION: complete w/ light wear overall.
4) MATCH SAFE. A carved bone match safe w/ striker on 1 side. Either hinged end will open to revel the matches. CONDITION: light wear.
5) COMPASS. A truly fine brass compass measuring slightly over 3" in diameter w/ friction fit cover. Interior of compass is marked, “W.&L.E. Gurley, Instrument Makers.Troy.N.Y. “. CONDITION: compass shows light wear overall & appears fully functional.
6) FLASK. A 4 1/4" brass pistol flask w/ a spray of leaves design on the front. CONDITION: flask shows a few scattered, minor dents.
7) FLASK. A 4 1/8" brass pistol flask likely for a Colt pistol. Flask depicts 13 stars above an eagle w/ crossed pistols below & a ribbon that reads, “E . PLURIBUS . UNUM .”. Flask is filled w/ tiny lead shot. CONDITION: flask shows light overall wear w/ no notable dents.
8) PISTOL PARTS. An M1860 Colt Army wedge screw. / 2 M1849 Colt Pocket mainspring screws. / A set of screws for an M1849 Colt Pocket. / A set of screws for an M1860 Colt Army. CONDITION: screws show light wear.
9) ID TAG. A field made ID tag of questionable age made from a flattened bullet. Tag reads, “J. Jackson II Co.H 119th NYV”. Tag is on a rawhide necklace. Although it is possible this tag was made in the field during the Civil War, it is impossible to determine the exact period of mfg. CONDITION: light to moderate wear overall.
