2 FRENCH CAVALRY SABERS OF THE 19th CENTURY.
1) Overall length: 44". Blade length: 36 1/4". Plain straight blade with 2 parallel medium fullers. The spine of the blade appears to read "Mre d'Armes de ChatA 8 Are 18'10=Pragore Mre 1854". Plain brass hilt with heavy 3-branch guard. Wire-wrapped leather grip. Iron scabbard. CONDITION: blade has a light gray patina. Hilt has a deep, dark brown patina. Grip shows wear but is complete. Scabbard has a dark oxidized finish but remains quite solid. 2) Overall length: 44". Blade length: 35 1/2". Blade has a single wide fuller with a secondary fuller near the spine. The spine appears to be marked "Mre d'Armes de ChatA Mars 1879=Cavrie Ire Mle 1822". Plain brass 2-branch hilt with wire-wrapped leather grip. Iron scabbard. CONDITION: blade has seen heavy sharpening. Hilt & grip show light to moderate wear. Scabbard is undamaged with a dark, oxidized patina. PROVENANCE: From the estate collection of Thomas J. Mulligan.
