1) Model 1898/05 w/ 14 1/4" fullered blade; marked on left ricasso w/ "crossed keys". "Fichel & Sachs" "Schweinfurt". Blade is marked on top w/ "Crown L",Bavarian Cypher" & "Crown ?". Crossguard has curved quillon marked on front w/ "Crown F" & S#. Grips are grooved walnut w/ flash guard. Birdshead pommel. Blue steel scabbard marked "25" lined out; "2.12." lined out. CONDITION: bright blade has very good appearance w/ spots of light oxidation. Balance of metal turning gray & patina w/ light overall wear. Grips have light wear & handling marks. Notable chip in right grip. Blue steel scabbard has wear, handling marks & spots of light oxidation throughout.
2) Model 1898N/A "neuer art"; w/ 20 1/2" fullered "epee" type blade; marked on right ricasso "SIMSON & CO." "SUHL". Crossguard w/ curved tip has S# on right side. Ribbed walnut grips w/o flash guard. Birdshead pommel, marked at rear w/ sunburst over shield. Shield contains sheep, tree & cornucopia. Matching numbered leather scabbard w/ steel throat & tip. CONDITION: lightly worn bright blade w/ scattered handling marks. Balance of metal turning gray w/ light wear & light oxidation. Grips have moderate wear, dents & scratches. Leather scabbard has wear & scuffing. Throat is loose. Metal has oxidation & scattered fine pitting. (02-16315-6/RW). $200-400.
