2 JAPANESE ARMY SWORDS.
1) ARMY PARADE SABER. Overall length: 47 1/4". Blade length: 39 5/8”. The measurements on this sword are correct and it is of extraordinary length for an Army parade saber. Plain unfullered blade. Gilded brass hilt with downturned quillon. Pierced guard with a rather plain knuckle now that has some engraving where it meets the pommel. Cherry blossom decorated pommel with backstrap that also boasts 2 cherry blossoms. A silver hexagonal seal on the backstrap has 3 leaves in a circle. Wire-wrapped sharkskin grip. Plated iron scabbard. CONDITION: blade shows areas of original factory polish with notable scabbard wear. Hilt shows light overall wear, but only traces of the original gilded finish remain. Grip shows light wear. Scabbard shows light wear but does have a few shallow dents. 2) ARMY TYPE 19 CAVALRY SWORD. Overall length: 38 1/4". Blade length: 31 1/4". Plain blade with a single wide fuller. Gilded brass hilt with a downturned quillon. Pierced plain 5-slot guard with plain knuckle bow. Pommel is decorated with foliate & cherry blossom motifs, and the ears of the backstrap each have a 10-petal cherry blossom. The silver seal on top of the backstrap appears to have 2 crossed lozenges. Wire-wrapped wooden grip. Plated iron scabbard. CONDITION: blade shows original factory polish. Hilt is quite solid and retains traces of original gilded finish. Grip shows wear but is undamaged. Scabbard has a few minor shallow dents and has scattered areas of plating loss.
