1) M1899 TYPE 32 SABER. Overall length: 37". Blade length: 30 1/4". M1899 sabers were used by both the cavalry & the army. This example is for an army NCO & is known as the Otsu pattern. It was produced in Tokyo by the Hohei Kosho Arsenal. This type of saber saw use during the Russo-Japanese War, WWI & WWII. Single fullered blade marked at the ricasso, “90004”. 1 Piece steel guard & knuckle bow w/ checkered steel backstrap. 1 Piece checkered wood grip. Iron scabbard w/ a single suspension ring. CONDITION: both sword & scabbard show light wear overall w/ some mottled oxidation on the surface of the scabbard. 2) SHIN-GUNTO KATANA. Overall length: 38". Blade length: 27 1/4". Blade has a full length hi & no discernible hamon. The number “66235” is stamped above the hi near the gilded brass habaki. Plain iron tsuba w/ 1 seppa above & below. Copper fuchi w/ a stamp for the Kokura Arsenal. Painted aluminum tsuka w/ simulated 3 cherry blossom menuki on each side. Kabuto-gane is complete w/ lanyard ring. Black painted steel saya. CONDITION: blade shows light wear. Tsuka shows light to moderate wear w/ some finish loss. Saya may have been repainted. (02-14637/BF). $400-700.
